Iceland Wins Most Medals at Small States Games

Icelandic athletes were victorious at the 2015 Games of the Small States of Europe which concluded in Reykjavík on Saturday. Iceland claimed 115 medals, 38 gold, 46 silver and 31 bronze medals, which is the country’s best achievement at the GSSE to date.

Luxembourg came second with a total of 80 medals, 34 gold, 22 silver and 24 bronze medals, and Cyprus placed third with 52 medals, 20 gold, 16 silver and 16 bronze medals, mbl.is reports.

Among the gold medals Iceland earned was in women’s beach volleyball. The Icelandic team was comprised of Elísabet Einarsdóttir and Berglind Gígja Jónsdóttir.

Track and fielder Hafdís Sigurðardóttir boasted the most success among individual athletes, winning six medals, four gold medals and two silver medals. Swimmer Hrafnhildur Lúthersdóttir earned four gold medals at the games.
