Iceland vs. Iceland at EHF EURO 2016

By Iceland Review

Although the Icelandic men’s national handball team was eliminated from the Men’s EHF EURO 2016 in Poland, two Icelanders remain in the championship. They are the coaches of the Danish and the German teams, Guðmundur Þórður Guðmundsson and Dagur Sigurðsson. Today at 5:15 pm, they will meet when the two teams compete against each other. Most likely, only one of those teams will qualify for the semifinals after today’s game, according to RÚV.

Right now, Denmark is in first place in the Main Round, Group II with seven points, Germany in second place with 6, and Spain ranks third with 6 points. The two top teams in the group after today’s games will move on to the semifinals. Spain plays Russia tonight, and for both Icelanders to qualify for the semifinals, Russia would have to beat Spain, and Germany would need to beat Denmark or their game would have to be a draw. For Denmark to move on to the semifinals, a draw is sufficient.

The game between Denmark and Germany will be broadcast live on RÚV at 5:15 pm, and the game between Russia and Spain will be broadcast live on RÚV2 at 7:30 pm.
