Iceland Volcano Update

Over the last day there have been four earthquakes of equal strength measured in the area around the Holuhraun volcanic eruption.

The quakes measured 4.3 on the Richter scale and were centered to the northwest of the Bárðarbunga craters. One took place at 04.00 and the other three later in the day.

While the lava eruption continues unabated, the intensity of activity has been lower in recent days, and remains so today. Webcams are situated near the eruption and today’s weather conditions mean views are good, according to Vísir.is.

Gas pollution from the volcano is moving to the south and east today, although there is not a lot of wind; keeping it fairly localized. All urban monitoring stations in towns across Iceland reported safe pollution levels at 06.00 this morning.
