Iceland Virtually out of UEFA Women’s EURO

By Iceland Review

Iceland is as good as out of UEFA Women’s EURO 2017 in the Netherlands, after France and Austria drew 1-1 in their Group C match on Saturday, reports Vísir.

Iceland has lost both its matches of the tournament so far, most recently a 1-2 loss to Switzerland on Saturday. This meant Iceland had to rely on France beating Austria for it to have any chance of moving forward to the quarter finals.

After Saturday’s matches, Austria and France are jointly leading Group C with four points apiece. Switzerland is in third place with three points. Iceland is at the bottom of the group on zero points, which is a hugely disappointing result.

However, Iceland still has one more match to play on Wednesday against Austria, and there is nothing for it now but to try and finish the tournament in style by claiming three points in Rotterdam.
