The U21 Icelandic men’s soccer team will meet England in an international friendly match on March 28. The game will be played at the Deepdale pitch of Preston North End FC.
The game is part of the preparations for UEFA’s U-21 European Football Championship that will be held in Denmark, starting June 11 this summer.
After the match against England the Icelandic team will travel to Kiev where it will play another friendly against Ukraine.
In the U21 European Football Championships, Iceland plays in Group A alongside Switzerland, Denmark and Belarus.
England and Ukraine are both in Group B with Spain and the Czech Republic.
This is the first time an Icelandic national soccer team has qualified for a tournament at this level, knocking out Germany and Scotland on the way. Hopes are therefore high in Iceland for the team to succeed in the championships.
