Iceland Ties Portugal, Off to a Great Euro Start

The Icelandic national team in men’s football made a 1-1 draw against Portugal in their first game at the 2016 Euro Cup in France this evening.

Luís Nani scored the first goal of the game for Portugal in the 31st minute. In the 52nd minute, Birkir Bjarnason scored for Iceland, tying the score.

“Iceland pick up their first ever point at the European Championship,” Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Þór Sigurðsson wrote on Facebook after the game.

He also commented on the strong presence of Icelandic supporters: “3% of Iceland’s population are in this picture!”
