Iceland Ties Azerbaijan in Friendly Football Game

Iceland and Azerbaijan tied 1-1 in a friendly football game at Laugardalsvöllur stadium in Reykjavík yesterday. Azerbaijan scored the first goal of the game shortly after the second half began, but Grétar Rafn Steinsson equaled the score later on.

According to visir.is, Iceland did not deliver a satisfying performance and the players need to get their act together if they plan to succeed in the qualifying round to the 2010 World Championship.

Iceland’s coach Ólafur Jóhannesson announced before the game that Iceland would play more on the offensive that what they have done in past games, but his team still didn’t get a chance to score until after 20 minutes.

Eidur Smári Gudjohnsen came close to scoring twice in the first half, but his efforts did not deliver the desired results.

Iceland’s first game in the qualifying round to the World Championship will be against Norway in two weeks.
