Iceland is still on the European Union’s list of application countries, Nútíminn reports.
On Friday it was reported that Iceland was no longer listed as a candidate or potential candidate country on the website of the European Commission.
However, Iceland remains on the list of candidate countries, along with Albania, Montenegro, Serbia, Macedonia and Turkey, on the European Union’s website.
In mid-March, the Icelandic government requested that Iceland no longer be considered an applicant country. The announcement sparked protests in Iceland as prior to the election, the government promised to put the issue of whether or not to continue accession talks to a national referendum.
