Iceland placed second on the British Record Daily list of the countries with the most number of successful Everest climbers per million people. According to Morgunbladid Iceland placed behind Nepal with 10.11 people per million while Nepal had 19.22 per million.
Four Icelanders have reached the peak of Everest. In 1997 Björn Ólafsson, Einar Stefánsson og Hallgrímur Magnússon summitted. In 2002 Haraldur Örn Ólafsson climbed to the top of Everest.
