Iceland Second Happiest Nation in Europe

Iceland is the second happiest nation in Europe after Denmark, according to the European Social Survey (ESS) 2012-2013. The survey, which covers 29 countries, found that the happiness of Icelanders is approaching pre-crash levels.

According to Dóra Guðrún Guðmundsdóttir, divisional manager at the Directorate of Health, the crash resulted in many Icelanders being less happy due to concerns about making ends meet.

The happiness of children and teenagers, however, has increased since the crash due to their parents spending more time with them, visir.is reports.

Iceland has scored among the world’s happiest nations in recent years.

ESS has been conducted every two years across Europe since 2001. The survey measures the attitudes, beliefs and behavior patterns of diverse populations, as stated on the consortium’s website.
