Iceland to Receive Five LGBT Refugees

The foreign minister and the minister of welfare have accepted the recommendation of the committee on refugees to receive five LGBT refugees from Zimbabwe, Uganda and Cameroon and a six-person family from Afghanistan. The committee made the recommendation after reviewing applications by the individuals to the UN Refugee Agency

The municipalities of Reykjavík and Hafnarfjörður will receive the refugees, as stated on the website of the Ministry of Welfare.

Of the five LGBT individuals, one is a woman, while the family consists of a widow and her five children.

The Icelandic government approved the project in September.
