Iceland Qualifies for Eurovision Song Contest Final

Iceland’s entry in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, Azerbaijan, “Never Forget”, was one of ten songs that made it to the final on Saturday. It was the second performance in the first semifinal yesterday and the third qualifier to be announced.

“Now our goal has been achieved and everything that happens after this is just a bonus. I’m very relieved that Icelanders can have a grill party on Saturday,” Greta Salóme Stefánsdóttir, the song’s author and one of its two performers, told Morgunblaðið.

The other qualifiers out of the 18 participants yesterday were Romania, Moldova, Hungary, Denmark, Albania, Cyprus, Greece, Russia and Ireland.

The second semifinal takes place on Thursday where another ten contestants for the Eurovision grand final on Saturday will be determined.
