Iceland Qualifies for Eurovision Final

Just now, Iceland qualified for the Eurovision Song Contest final. It was the tenth and last qualifier announced in the first semi-final in Düsseldorf, Germany, with the song “Coming Home” by Sjonni Brink and Thórunn Clausen, performed by Sjonni’s Friends.

The atmosphere in the green room was electric because for the third year in a row, Iceland was the last qualifier to be announced. The Icelandic contestants were hopeful but cautiously so because forecasts had been misleading, ruv.is reports.

The second semi-final will take place on Thursday and the main competition is on Saturday. Both will be broadcast live on eurovision.tv. The other qualifiers were Serbia, Lithuania, Greece, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Switzerland, Hungary, Finland and Russia.

Judging by the cheers in the audience, Norway had a very popular entry this year; some betting houses had even predicted victory for Norway. It may therefore come as a surprise that its Nordic neighbor Iceland qualified instead.
