Iceland Prepared for Shanghai 2010 Expo

Preparations for Iceland’s participation in the Expo 2010 in Shanghai, which opens on May 1, have gone well. Hreinn Pálsson, the managing director for Iceland’s entry, said the local media has given the country a lot of attention.

In the past days, Pálsson has been interviewed by both newspaper and broadcast journalists. In the past four months a total of 80 news stories about Iceland’s participation in the 2010 Expo have been published in China’s largest media, Morgunbladid reports.

“We participated in the Expo area’s test opening and received approximately 22,000 visitors in four days,” Pálsson said. Everything went well, although long queues formed outside the Icelandic pavilion. At times, more than 1,000 people were waiting outside.

The Shanghai 2010 Expo will be the largest and most extensive world expo since it was first held with the participation of 197 nations. It is anticipated that 70 million people will visit the Expo in the coming months.
