Iceland Plays for Spot in European Basketball Cup

The Icelandic national team in men’s basketball played their first game in the preliminary round of the European Championship in Basketball yesterday, losing 71-98 against the much stronger opponent Serbia, which is eighth on the FIBA World Rank.

The Icelandic team put up a good fight in the latter part of the game, which is considered to be a promising outlook for the team’s performance in coming games. Iceland will play ten games in 26 days, Morgunblaðið reports.

In other sport news, the Icelandic national team in men’s football will play a friendly against the Faroe Islands at Laugardalsvöllur stadium in Reykjavík tonight, which is the team’s final preparation for the World Cup preliminary round.
