The Association Iceland-Palestine criticizes Israeli authorities in a statement sent to the Icelandic media, saying that Icelandic authorities should terminate diplomatic relations with Israel if Israel does not cease air strikes on the Gaza Strip.
The statement reads that it is ridiculous of Israeli authorities to blame the air strikes on Palestine. The association also criticizes Iceland’s Foreign Minister Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir for saying that both countries are responsible for the situation, visir.is reports.
“It was sarcastic to hear Iceland’s foreign minister describe the victims of the war and the attacker as equal on the national radio by talking of them as parties in a dispute where both are responsible despite having earlier described the attacks of the Israeli army on the Gaza Strip as indefensible,” the statement reads.
“She [Gísladóttir] should rather have expressed her sincere compassion and support for the war-scarred inhabitants of the Gaza Strip. Half of the inhabitants are refugees who have been waiting for a solution to their problems for 60 years,” the statement continues.
The association is organizing a demonstration to protest Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip on Laekjartorg square in Reykjavík today at 4 pm.
