Iceland Observes International AIDS Day

Members from the Gay and Lesbian Student Organization, the AIDS Association, and the Gay and Lesbian Associations among others participated in observing International AIDS Day on 1 December. The groups created a large display of candles in the shape of a ribbon along the pond in Reykjavík’s downtown. They also held a gathering at the Free Church of Iceland, where there were speeches and various performances.

According to Morgunbladid, there have been 176 incidents of HIV infection in Iceland, with 36 fatalities from AIDS. This year, there were five reported incidents of HIV and one person died of AIDS.
