Iceland Number One in Internet Access

According to the report Digital in 2016, published by the UK-based company We Are Social, Iceland ranks first among nations with populations of 50,000 or more in terms of internet penetration, or 98 percent. Bermuda and Norway are close behind with 97 percent and 96 percent penetration respectively.

At the bottom of the list is North Korea, where only 7,200 people have access to the internet, or 0.03 percent of the population. Since there is no internet service provider in the country, the number likely represents foreign nationals who access Facebook from North Korea via mobile devices.

According to the report, there are 3.42 billion internet users in the world, and 2.31 billion social medial users.

Globally, internet use is the highest in North America (88 percent) and in Europe (83 percent). The lowest rate of internet use is in South Asia (27 percent) and Africa (29 percent).
