Iceland Names West Nordic Council Award Nominee

The nominees for the fifth bi-annual West Nordic Council Children’s and Teenagers’ Book Award have been announced and this year the Icelandic jury is submitting Gardurinn (“The Garden”; 2008) by Gerdur Kristný.

The jury concluded that the book has an interesting plot, intertwining the past and present and questions the borders between the known and unknown. The author provides insight into the emotional life of teenagers and takes advantage of different forms of narration, a press release describes.

The Greenlandic jury has nominated Sila by Lana Hansen with drawings by Georg Olsen and the Faroese jury Várferdin til Brúnna by Rakel Helmsdal.

The award will be announced in August 2010 and the prize is DKK 60,000 (USD 12,000, EUR 8,000).
