Iceland Music Export: Midem a Success

Iceland Music Export (IMX) presented Icelandic music and musicians at Midem – the World’s Music Market in France last week, in cooperation with the Trade Council of Iceland, and the 30 Icelandic participants received considerable attention.

Among participants were representatives from record labels Sena, Smekkleysa, 12 Tónar, Blánótt, Dimma and Zonets.

Mugison, who is marketing his latest album Mugiboogie himself, said he had secured agreements on distribution in all the main markets, and other musicians had similar success stories too, according to an IMX press release.

Pianist Nína Margrét Grímsdóttir said Midem had been a great promotion opportunity for her. She is currently negotiating with British company Toccata Classics on releasing three of her albums.

Iceland’s Minister of Education, Science and Culture Thorgerdur Katrín Gunnarsdóttir also took part in presenting Icelandic music to the nearly 500 visitors to the Icelandic booth at Midem, and afterwards she met with representatives from the international music industry.
