Iceland Loses to US in Algarve Cup Opener

Iceland lost to the U.S., 0-3, in the opener of the 2013 Algarve Cup Portugal in women’s football on Wednesday.

According to the Boston Herald, the U.S., which hold the title of Olympic Champions, had difficulties in the first half but were more assertive in the second.

No goals were scored in the first half but Rachel Buhler scored the first at 48 minutes. Fifteen minutes later, Shannon Boxx took the store to 2-0 before Abby Wambach, recently crowned the best female football player in the world, scored the last match of the game at 74 minutes.

Iceland, which is in Group B along with Sweden, China and the U.S., play their next game at 6 pm CET against the Swedes
