Turkey beat Iceland 1:0 in last night’s preliminary game in Turkey, Vísir reports. This was the national men’s football team’s last preliminary game before the UEFA EURO 2016 in France. Iceland secured itself participation in the EURO 2016 September 6, but for Turkey, last night’s results meant a ticket for them to France as well.
The teams were equal in strength for most of the game, but during the 89th minute, Selçuk Inan scored the game’s only goal with a stunningly shot free kick. Shortly before that, substitute Gökhan Töre had gotten the red card for an ugly tackle against Daði Böðvarsson.
The Czech Republic finishes the preliminaries in first place in Group A ; Iceland is second, while Turkey is in third place.
