Iceland Loses to Denmark in Women’s Football

Iceland’s national women’s football team lost 2-0 to Denmark in the Algarve Cup in Portugal yesterday, dashing its hopes for a medal. Iceland will play against China for the fifth place on Wednesday, while Denmark will play Germany for the bronze.

The score was 1-0 for Denmark at the end of the first half after a rather controversial goal by Christine Örntoft. Örntoft then sealed Denmark’s victory with her second goal in the 66th minute, mbl.is reports.

Iceland played better in the game’s second half and aggressively tried to close the gap until the end of the game, but in vain.

Yesterday’s game was the third between Iceland and Denmark’s A-list national teams in women’s football. Denmark has won all three.
