Iceland Loses to Denmark in Handball

Iceland lost to Denmark 23:32 in the Main Round of the European Handball Championship 2014 yesterday despite some of Denmark’s star players being on the bench. Denmark, which is hosting the competition, is the only undefeated team at this year’s championship.

Iceland will play against Poland for the fifth place on Friday.

The match, however, was of no importance with regards to the standing in Group 1 of the Main Round, ehf-euro.com reports. Denmark had already qualified for the semi-final as group winner and Iceland was out of the semi-final after Spain won against FYR Macedonia 33:22.

Iceland’s coach Aron Kristjánsson conceded that Denmark was the better team. “Denmark was a better team. We had a lot of problems with their attacks. We also missed a lot of good goal chances, and had many technical fouls in our fast breaks. And in the second half Denmark was simply better.”
