Iceland Loses Against US in Women’s Football

The Icelandic national team in women’s football lost 0-2 to the American team in their first game in the Algarve Cup in Vila Real de Santo António in Portugal on Wednesday. Iceland failed to score from two penalty kicks.

US goalkeeper Hope Solo deflected both penalty shots, from Margrét Lára Vidarsdóttir in the 14th minute and from Berglind Björg Thorvaldsdóttir in added time, mbl.is reports.

The US goals were scored in a period of two minutes in the mid-second half. The first was an own goal by Iceland but the second was scored by Laura Cheney.
