Iceland Loses against Macedonia, Beats Belgium

The Icelandic men’s football team lost 2-0 against Macedonia in Skopje yesterday and is now disqualified from the 2010 World Championship in South Africa. The Icelandic men’s handball team, on the other hand, beat Belgium 33-25.

The football game was played in scorching heat, 35°C (95°F), and the Icelandic players were slow to react. They had some good chances to score but blew them all, Fréttabladid reports.

However, the Icelandic handball team beat Belgium by eight goals with Alexander Petersson making a fantastic comeback to the Icelandic team after having recovered from injury.

The game was played in the qualifying round for the 2010 European Championship in Handball in Austria and Iceland has to play against two strong teams next, Norway on Sunday and Macedonia, in handball this time, on June 17, Iceland’s national day.
