Iceland-Inspired Exhibition in London

The exhibition “Restless Earth” by visual artist Daisy Cook is currently running in the Northcote Gallery in Chelsea. The paintings were inspired by the artist’s travels in southwest Iceland in April 2009.

“Shadowland” oil on canvas, 162x170cm.

Cook first wanted to visit Iceland a decade earlier after completing a show about the Australian desert. It struck her that Iceland might offer an extreme contrast, “coolness rather than heat.”

“One might very well say that these are paintings of the Icelandic landscape and I believe that they are, in all but the most literal of ways. If you visit Iceland – as you should – you will search in vain for the precise scenes that seem to be portrayed in these images. But you will also see them everywhere,” describes Telegraph journalist Chris Heath in the exhibition’s brochure.

The gallery is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 11 am to 6 pm, and on Sundays from 1 pm to 4 pm. The exhibition runs until the end of July. Visit the gallery’s website for further information.
