A Lincoln’s Sparrow was spotted in Höfðaskógur, the Forestry Society of Hafnafjörður, yesterday. The bird has never been seen in Iceland before. The forested area is a popular spot for birds to find food during the winter months.

The bird’s breeding habitat is in the United States, Canada and Alaska. The bird has never before been seen in Iceland and has only been spotted once in Europe, on the Azores, ruv.is reports.
According to Steinar Björgvinsson, who works at the nursery, news of the unusual visitor has attracted tens of birdwatchers and photographers.
