Stormy weather has caused around 60 flights to-and-from Iceland to be cancelled this afternoon, January 31st, with potentially more cancellations leading into tomorrow morning.
As reported in Vísir yesterday, flights at Keflavík International Airport, scheduled to fly back and forth from Europe and North America, have been severely impacted by the dramatic January weather.
Yellow and even orange weather warnings are in place across the entire country, though are expected to be lifted by noon tomorrow. In a press release from Icelandair, the airline warned that flights early Saturday morning, February 1st, may be cancelled.
Those whose flights have been disrupted can expect to be placed on a rescheduled flight and sent a new itinerary. However, due to a backlog, it is expected that the rebooking process might take longer than usual.
Icelandair thanks passengers for patience
In their statement, Icelandair said; “Passengers are thanked for their patience and advised to pay close attention to the messages sent by the company, which can also be followed on the company’s website under My Booking and in the Icelandair app. There is no need to contact Icelandair unless the new itinerary does not fit the trip.”
Domestic flights are currently still operating, though cancellations remain a distinct possibility. Icelandair is currently monitoring the weather forecast and will inform passengers of any potential flight changes over the next few days.
