Iceland Featured in Lille Photo Festival

The annual festival Transphotographiques is currently running in Lille, France. Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, this is one of the country’s major photography festivals. “North” is this year’s theme, and there are two photo series from Iceland.

One of the series is by Pascal Fellonneau. It is called “Cold Cold Ground” and was shot in Akureyri, north Iceland, in 2005.

“Located approximately 100 kilometers south of the polar circle, in a fjord that opens onto the sea of Greenland, it is isolated and far removed from the capital Reykjavik. The climate in December, the time of the year these images were made, prompts its inhabitants into a domestic retreat,” the artist writes in description of the series.

The other series from Iceland is by English photographer Christopher Taylor and features the Westman Islands, which lie off Iceland’s southern coast.

The festival runs through June 26.
