A fourteen years old girl was not able to board an Iceland Express flight from Billund in Denmark to Keflavík International Airport in Iceland; the airline had booked too many passengers on the flight and left behind two passengers in Billund.
An Iceland Express plane.
The young girl and the second passenger had to make do with a much longer flight to Iceland via Copenhagen and Gothenberg; the young girl had no spending money during the 24 hours journey, mbl.is reports.
Iceland Express regrets the young girl had to be put through the ordeal; they blame a staff member of Billund Airport Handling, the service company they work with in Billund.
“We found out from the company that the employee in question was about to start his summer holidays and rather than announcing to the passengers the problem at hand he simply checked in all the passengers he could and then told the final two they could not board the flight. The practise is in violation of Iceland Express’ regulations as he did not provide the service expected of him and he did not bother to arrange for someome to assist the girl who is a minor. We are going to have to re-consider our disposition to the company and whether it is a company we want to work with,” Heimir Már Pétursson, a PR officer for Iceland Express told mbl.is.
The girl’s mother told mbl.is he would not let her daughter travel solo with the airline after what she went through.
