Iceland Express adds five new destinations

Iceland Express formally launched its summer schedule on Tuesday with its flight departing from Keflavík airport bound for Paris. Other destinations include Basel in Switzerland, Billund in Denmark, Oslo in Norway and Eindhoven in the Netherlands.

“Iceland Express has contributed to increased competition and variation in scheduled flights from Iceland since the airline was founded,” Iceland Express CEO Matthías Imsland (left) said at the launch.

When Iceland Express was founded about four years ago it had two destinations on its schedule, which have since increased to 13 cities across Europe. The first year the airline operated it transported 130,000 passengers, who have since increased to 400,000 in 2006.

“Iceland Express has gained the nation’s trust with its operations over the last four years. The company has done so with good service and attractive pricing, in addition to participating in increasing the number of tourists who visit Iceland,” Minister of Transport Sturla Bödvarsson (right)said at the launch.

Iceland Express also flies to London, Alicante, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Berlin, Frankfurt Hahn and Friedrichshafen.

Starting in June the airline will also fly directly between Akureyri, northeast Iceland, and Copenhagen, and Egilsstadir, east Iceland, and Copenhagen.
