It is expected that the European Commission will recommend during its meeting today to commence membership negotiations with Iceland. If that will be the conclusion, the matter will likely be discussed during an EU summit on March 25 to 26.

During the EU summit, all country leaders must agree unanimously to begin membership talks with Iceland before negotiations can be set in motion, visir.is reports.
However, a unanimous decision in that regard may prove difficult if the Icesave dispute with the UK and the Netherlands has not been resolved in time for the summit.
