Iceland Eruption Stamps Considered Extraordinary

Three Icelandic stamps that were printed with volcanic ash from Eyjafjallajökull are among the world’s most extraordinary in 2010, according to StampNews.com. The stamps, issued by Iceland Post on July 22, placed second.

The three stamps, which depict the volcanic eruptions on Fimmvörduháls and Eyjafjallajökull, all contain volcanic ash which fell on April 17, 2010. They were designed by graphic designers Borgar Hjörleifur Árnason and Hany Hadaya, mbl.is reports.

Icelandic stamps have made it to StampNews.com’s top ten list before; last time they placed second for stamps printed with heat-activated ink and the year before that Iceland Post’s luminous stamp of the Imagine Peace Tower on Videy island placed third.
