Iceland Enters Jar City into Oscar Race

The Icelandic Film and Television Academy (ÍKSA) has chosen the film Jar City (Icelandic title: Mýrin) by Baltasar Kormákur as Iceland’s submission for Best Foreign-Language Film at the 2008 Academy Awards.

The suspense thriller, based on the book Tainted Blood (2000) by Arnaldur Indridason, has won many awards, including Best Film at the Czech film festival Karlovy Vary last summer, reports.

At the 2006 Edda Awards, the Icelandic Film and Television Awards, Jar City was named Film of the Year, Baltasar Kormákur named Director of the Year, Ingvar Sigurdsson, who plays detective Erlendur, named Best Actor and Atli Rafn Sigurdsson named Best Supporting Actor.
