Iceland Dance Company performs in China

The Iceland Dance Company, the first Icelandic artists to visit China after the two countries signed an agreement on cultural exchange in March, ended its China tour in Beijing on Sunday, performing two dances on love.

The Company had also made an appearance at the Guangdong Modern Dance Festival and in Shanghai, ChinaView reports.

On Sunday the Dance Company performed the pieces “Luna,” which won the 2004 Icelandic Dance Award, and “Happy New Year.”

“‘Luna’ is a light-hearted piece about the relationship between men and women. ‘Happy New Year’ is completely different – it has an ironic twist in the title. It talks about the lack of communication between people. There you will see a lot of powerful dancing,” said managing director of the Iceland Dance Company Ása Richardsdóttir.

The Company and its 14 dancers, who all have a background in classical dancing, have worked with some of Europe’s leading choreographers.
