The Icelandic national team in men’s handball beat Russia 38-30 in the European Championship in handball in Vienna yesterday. At half time Iceland led by nine goals, 19-10.
“My order for the day was to hit the Russians with full force from the beginning to the end. We prepared extremely well,” Iceland’s coach Gudmundur Gudmundsson told mbl.is. “We analyzed their offense tactics and knew all about their plans.”
Snorri Steinn Gudjónsson and Alexander Petersson scored the most goals for Iceland with seven goals each and Sturla Ásgeirsson followed with five goals, ruv.is reports.
Iceland’s next game is against Norway tomorrow. A tie will suffice to guarantee Iceland a spot in the semi-final.
