Iceland contributes to UN’s new peace fund

The government has decided to give USD one million (EUR 796,000) to a peace fund the United Nations established to assist victims of war. This was announced last Wednesday.

Foreign Minister, Valgerdur Sverrisdóttir, said the money would go to areas where conflict has just ended, so that victims of conflict will not have to wait until money has been raised to receive emergency assistance. Fréttabladid reports.

The UN hopes to raise a total of USD 250 million (EUR 200 million) before long.
