Iceland Condemns North Korea’s Nuclear Test

Iceland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Össur Skarphédinsson harshly condemned North Korea’s experimental nuclear test last night. The minister said the Icelandic government is against all usage of nuclear weapons and will lobby for decreased usage of such weapons internationally.

“This test will definitely increase the tension in northeast Asia considerably and threaten sensitive balance of peace. It is very bad news that while other countries are reducing the usage of nuclear weapons this impoverished country is spending excessive funds on developing them,” Skarphédinsson stated according to a press release from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Skarphédinsson further encouraged all nations of the world to unite and fight against nuclear armaments, adding that US President Barack Obama’s announcement that he intended to work towards a world free from nuclear weapons during the NATO summit in April should be celebrated.
