Iceland Coast Guard Searches for Boat off Libya

Icelandic Coast Guard vessel Týr, which is currently on assignment for Frontex, the European Union’s external borders agency, in the Mediterranean, is currently searching for a dinghy 18 nautical miles north of Libya, visir.is reports. The Italian Coast Guard is also at the scene.

Týr was called out to the area yesterday but the search for the vessel has so far been unsuccessful.

The Malta Independent reports today that nine bodies have been recovered from the sea off the coast of Libya.

Over 5,000 individuals were reportedly rescued from boats in the Mediterranean by coast guard authorities in the last three days.
