The Icelandic Coast Guard and its counterpart in Norway are currently discussing whether Iceland’s new Coast Guard Cruiser can be leased to Norway, which is currently under construction in Chile.

“We are looking into possibilities of leasing the ship temporarily based on our partnership agreement with Norway,” director of the Icelandic Coast Guard Georg Lárusson told Morgunbladid.
Lárusson said it is not yet clear what the arrangement would be, but it would possibly be related to how supervisory territories would be divided and the Icelandic Coast Guard might rent a Norwegian cruiser in exchange.
Morgunbladid reported on Saturday that the number of crew members of Coast Guard helicopters might have to be cut as part of rationalization measures.
Lárusson would not comment on such ideas other than saying that it would have a negative impact on the Coast Guard’s opportunities to provide emergency services.
