An easy game had been predicted which may have caused the Icelandic players to underestimate their opponents; the Latvians sure gave them a run for their money, Morgunbladid reports.
This attitude almost caused Iceland to lose the game but the efforts of goalkeeper Hreidar Levy Gudmundsson and experienced shooter Ólafur Stefánsson, who played his 300th game yesterday, kept Iceland afloat.
Iceland has boasted great achievements in handball, earning the silver in the 2008 Olympics and bronze in the 2010 European Championship.
