Iceland Christmas Comedy Festival Coming Up

The Iceland Christmas Comedy Festival will be held in Reykjavík, Akranes and Selfoss December 15-19. Many of the events and stand-ups on the program will be in English; performers include a group from the University of Southampton Comedy Society.

Among Icelandic performance artists are Helga Braga Jónsdóttir, Rökkvi Vésteinsson and musician Svavar Knútur Kristinsson, who will bring his guitar, visir.is reports.

“We had been planning for some time that the British comedians would come here. After the other comedy festival was canceled, Reykjavík Comedy Festival, we thought it was a good idea to organize this one instead,” Vésteinsson said.

The comedy festival program will begin in the night club Batteríid in central Reykjavík on December 15. The following day, events will take place in another downtown Reykjavík venue, Kaffi Cultura.

The program on December 15 includes stand-ups and sketches, while on December 16 Icelandic and British improvisation actors will compete in a theatre sports competition where spectators will determine the winner by rating the acts.

The festival travels to Akranes, Gamla Kaupfélagid, in west Iceland on December 18 and Selfoss, 800 Bar, in the south on December 19. Both towns are within an hour’s distance from the capital by car. The Reykjavík public buses also go there.

Tickets are all under ISK 1,000 (USD 7.99, EUR 5.43).
