Iceland has claimed a major victory at the Dance World Cup, winning the overall top prize in the Song and Dance category.
The Dance World Cup is considered the largest competition of its kind worldwide, bringing together elite performers across multiple genres and age groups.
As reported by RÚV, the achievement made even more significant by ending England’s years-long dominance of the event.
The international tournament concluded this weekend in Burgos, Spain, where 8,500 dancers competed after qualifying from over 120,000 participants across more than 50 countries.
The Icelandic team’s organiser, choreographer Chantelle Carey, described the result as a landmark moment: “It is a unique privilege to see the young dancers, choreographers and principals triumph on a global scale.”
This year, Iceland was represented by several dance schools and cultural institutions: Dansakademían, Danskompani, JSB Dance School, Birna Björn’s Dance School, the Húnaþing Vestri Cultural Association, and the Youth Theatre.
