Iceland Celebrates Day of the European Scientist

Scientists and scholars will present their research to the public at Háskólabíó, the University of Iceland cinema, from 5 to 10 pm today in celebration of the Day of the European Scientist. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions about research being conducted by scientists in Iceland.

Similar events will be held in 320 cities around Europe today. The aim of the day is to bring science closer to the public and to raise awareness of the importance of research and scientific work in modern society.

This year’s theme is ‘The Powers of the Earth.’ Students and professors from the University of Iceland will hold exhibitions and presentations about a wide range of research projects. Attendees can also take part in the Biophilia musicology workshop designed by Björk.

Earlier this week, a number of scientists presented their areas of research during informal discussion sessions over coffee at Súfistinn café in downtown Reykjavík.

The event at Háskólabíó today is free of charge and suitable for all ages.
