The Icelandic men’s national football team beat Ukraine 2-0 at Laugardalsvöllur arena last night in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Newly signed Everton player Gylfi Þór Sigurðsson scored both goals in the second half.
This was Iceland’s first win against Ukraine in four matches, leaving Iceland in the second place of its current qualifying group, tying Croatia with only two matches left. In fact, this was Iceland’s fifteenth win in a row playing at Laugardalsvöllur, having lost last back in 2013 against Slovenia.
Iceland’s next match will be in Turkey on October 6th, with the qualifying group’s final match against Kosovo at Laugardalsvöllur on October 9th.
