Iceland’s national team in women’s football won against Sweden 2-1 in the Algarve Cup yesterday. The team finished the competition with the bronze medal, visir.is reports.
The win against Sweden comes after the Swedes beat Iceland 4-0 in the quarter-finals of the European Championships last summer. Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir and Harpa Þorsteinsdóttir scored for Iceland, both in the first 30 minutes.
Iceland had a bad start in the competition losing to Germany, but went on to win three games in a row—against Norway, China and Sweden.
Germany won the Cup for the third year in a row after beating Japan in the final.
