Iceland beats Serbia 5-0

The Icelandic female football (soccer) team beat Serbia 5-0 on Laugardalsvöllur football field in Reykjavík yesterday in the qualifying round of the 2008 European Championship. Iceland is in the top of its round with nine points.

Dóra Stefánsdóttir and Dóra María Lárusdóttir scored the first two goals in the first half; Katrín Jónasdóttir and Margrét Lára Vidarsdóttir scored the third and fourth goals in the second half. The fifth goal was an own goal by Serbia, Morgunbladid reports.

Never before have so many people watched a women’s football game in Iceland; there were 5,976 spectators on Laugardalsvöllur last night, 3,000 more than when the record was broken five years ago.
