Iceland Beats Latvia in Handball

The Icelandic national team in men’s handball beat Latvia 29-25 yesterday in the preliminary qualifying round for the 2012 European Handball Championship in Serbia.

On Sunday, Iceland will play against Austria in Reykjavík, which will be a duel for a seat in the championship, Morgunbladid reports.

“It will be about life and death for both teams. We will play against them in the final for a seat in the main competition,” commented Iceland’s coach Gudmundur Gudmundsson.

“It is in many ways a dream to get the chance to play such an important game on our home court, and I just hope that we will have a full house,” he added.
