The Icelandic men’s team in handball beat Denmark by five goals, 27-22, in the European Championship in Linz, Austria, on Saturday. The victory pushed Iceland to the top of their group in the preliminary round and guaranteed continued competition.
“The defense was working as well as it did during the Olympics,” Iceland’s coach Gudmundur Gudmundsson told visir.is of the game against Denmark. “Now we just have to continue with this determination.”
The Icelandic team arrived in Vienna yesterday and immediately began preparations for the game against Croatia today at 3 pm. Croatia is the only team with more points than Iceland in Group 1 in the main round, Morgunbladid reports.
